Stiles rips Ford, Carney for selling out Ontario’s auto workers

QUEEN’S PARK — Doug Ford’s failure to protect Ontario’s auto sector delivered a crushing blow today, with the Premier nowhere to be found as Prime Minister Mark Carney slashed tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles. Official Opposition Leader Marit Stiles has released the following statement, in response:

“It’s the same Doug Ford playbook; do nothing, then complain to grab headlines. Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe flew to China with the Prime Minister to advocate for his province’s canola farmers. Meanwhile, Ford was sitting at home, leaving Ontario workers with no one to fight for them. If you’re not at the table, you’re not fit for Premier.

“Let me be clear: Mark Carney is selling out our auto sector. China gets 49,000 guaranteed vehicle sales. Ontario workers get “expected” investment in “three years”. Our workers deserve guarantees — you don’t protect an industry with maybes.

“Neither Ford nor Carney give a damn about Ontario workers. The Premier has no plan, and he clearly doesn’t have the ear of the Prime Minister. While both Conservatives and Liberals leave Canadian workers out in the cold, New Democrats will keep fighting for good, Ontario jobs.”
